Meet Our Lansing Dance Instructors
(Owner & Dance Instructor) – has a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in dance. She also holds a Masters in the Art of teaching from the University of St. Mary. Miss Katie is a certified member of Dance Masters of America and has been a member since 1990. She is currently a First Grade teacher for the Easton School District. Along with her teaching job, Miss Katie maintains 2 studio locations. Miss Katie has choreographed many local productions and groups, such as Jr. Miss. She has been teaching area children for 30 years and looks forward to another great year!
(Tap & Tumble Team Dance Instructor) – she holds a BSB in Business Administration from the University of Kansas as well as a BSN from Missouri Western State College. Miss Kim has studied a variety of dance and acrobatics over the years. She has been teaching dance to area students for over 25 years. She has an excellent rapport with students of all ages!
(Dance Instructor/Acrobatics/Cheerleading) – Aimee has a BA in Art with an emphasis in both graphic design and illustration and also has a minor in business. Since she was little she has studied various styles of dance. She continued through college with tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, acrobatics and cheerleading. She also competed in dance and cheerleading competitions winning several awards. She has choreographed numerous routines for cheer and dance squads. She also coaches and prepares cheerleaders for all star and college cheerleading. She believes that dance plays an important part in helping a child build confidence and self esteem. Aimee enjoys being able to teach children and share her love of dance with them.
Denise Jacobson has been a ballet Dance Instructor at Katie’s Dance Studio for several years. She has a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance from UMKC and Elementary Education from Park University. Miss Denise’s passion is ballet and she enjoys passing on this art form to children and adults. Her dance experience: Joffrey Ballet in New York City, NY; Albany Berkshire Ballet in Albany, NY; and Pittsburg Ballet in Pittsburg, PA. Denise earned her Master’s in Public Administration in 2016.
Miss Christy is a 1999 graduate of Lansing High School, where she performed with both the Concert and Swing Choirs. She earned an Associate of Arts degree in Music (with Piano Performance emphasis) from KCKCC in 2002 and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Kansas in 2005. Miss Christy has had instruction in tap, jazz, and ballet since the age of seven. She has taught at Katie’s Dance Studio since September of 1999, and has also provided choreography to schools and taught classes in the Kansas City area. Miss Christy has 15+ years of experience in teaching piano lessons. She began accompanying and performing at age 10, and still regularly plays at various social functions. She has been employed by KCKCC to tutor in all levels of Music Theory. Currently, Miss Christy teaches piano/clarinet/voice lessons at Katie’s Dance Studio, as well as Kindermusik® classes, and accompanies multiple church choirs.
Melissa (Porter) Bean
Melissa is returning to Katie’s Dance Studio after a brief break. She has been with Katie’s Dance Studio in many roles first as student, then assistant teacher, and as a teacher. Melissa earned her B.S. degree from K-State, in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Dance. While at K-State she danced and performed under the direction of the dance faculty as well as many guest artists, in many genres of dance including, ballet, modern, jazz, and African, and choreographed for numerous student productions/concerts. She enjoys choreographing and teaching for all ages in ballet, jazz, acrobatics as well as contemporary. She now has 16 years of experience teaching children in various capacities. Melissa graduated with a M.S. degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Rockhurst University. She now works full-time as a speech language pathologist in the area. She is excited to return to teaching and choreographing especially with Katie’s Dance Studio!
Weston is coming to Katie’s Dance Studio from several years of experience in the gymnastics world. He started doing gymnastics and martial arts as a kid, then after high school and serving in the United States Marine Corps he returned to his roots and became a gymnastics coach part-time. He has 16 years experience teaching gymnastics and has been the competitive boys team head coach for the last 5 years for an Olathe, KS team. He has also taught older students who are new to gymnastics/tumbling and advanced tumble skills to girls and boys. Weston is excited to join the Katie’s Dance Studio family!
Miss Tabbie has grown up at Katie’s Dance Studio. Being Miss Kim’s daughter, she has spent a lot of time at the studio, either being the student, an assistant and/or the teacher. She has studied Jazz, Tap, Clogging, Hip Hop and Acrobatics since she started dancing at age 3. She was a member of our dance academy’s Dance and Tumble Teams and competed with NAC for 8 years. Miss Tabbie has earned a BS in Elementary Education and will be teaching at Kansas City, Kansas schools this fall as well as at Katie’s Dance Studio.
Miss Kylie has also grown up at Katie’s Dance Studio. She started dancing at a dance academy at a young age. She studied Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, and Clogging. Kylie was a member of our Dance Team and Company as well as a competitive clogger for many years. She is a graduate of Lansing High School and a certified beautician. We are pleased to have Miss Kylie on staff.
Mr. Nick grew up dancing and tumbling at Katie’s Dance Studio too. He was a member of the Tumble Team and competed with NAC for 9 years. While a student at Katie’s, Nick studied Acrobatics, power tumbling and hip hop. He has been an assistant teacher and now teacher at the studio. In high school, he was an accomplished athlete, earning state level recognition in football and track. Nick is currently a student at the University of Saint Mary studying exercise science and a member of the Spires football team.
